The housing crisis has not always existed—which means that it can be solved. But like the many other crises we’re currently facing, it will not go away on its own. We need a game plan. We need clearly defined objectives and the resources to achieve them. And we urgently need suitable housing, in suitable places, for everyone.

Our four doors to action

Vivre en Ville presents an important collective reflection aimed at transforming our relationship with housing. This publication serves both as a roadmap for overcoming the crisis and as a call to policymakers at all levels of government to change the rules of the game.

It proposes four key areas of action to be pursued simultaneously:

• Plan and support an abundant supply in sustainable communities
• Make it more profitable to build than to own
• Flood the market with non-profit units
• Supercharge the productivity of the construction sector
